One of Altoona's main tourist attractions is Horseshoe Curve, a famous curved section of railroad track owned by the Pennsylvania Railroad The Curve was used to raise trains to a sufficient height to cross the Allegheny mountains. Horseshoe Curve, was one of the main industrial links to the western U.S., which made it a target of Nazi saboteurs.
