Scranton is in the Lackawanna River valley. Before the western world found north america Scranton was originally occupied by the Lenape tribe of Native Americans. Iron and steel is what made the city of Scranton.

 

The University of Scranton campus is located near the downtown area. Just outside the city is the Montage Mountain Ski Resort. For travelers in need of a place to stay the Hilton hotel and a Courtyard by Marriott, can offer a room.

    • Scranton is also home of the Steamtown National Historic Site, a museum that seeks to preserve the history of steam locomotives
    • The Mall at Steamtown, a large downtown shopping center developed around the same time as the National Park site.
    • Lackawanna Trolley Museum, adjacent to the Steamtown Site, preserves pieces of Pennsylvania streetcar history.
    • The Lackawanna Coal Mine tour is open for those who desire to learn about the history of mining and railroads in the Scranton area. The tours are conducted inside a part of a former working mine.
    • The DL&W Passenger Station, now a Radisson Hotel with fine dining and several conference and banquet centers.
    • The Scranton Iron Furnaces, remnants of the Lackawanna Steel Company founded by the Scranton family.
    • The Montage Mountain Ski Resort features a wide array of skiing slopes and is adjacent to an amphitheater, the Toyota Pavilion, where musical artists ranging from James Taylor to Blink 182 have performed.
    • The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons baseball home games can be seen at the Lackawanna County Stadium located across from Montage in Moosic, PA.
    • Scranton is the episcopal see of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton
    • Trolley trips are now available for touring the city, similar to San Francisco.
    • Nay Aug Park is an amusement park and small zoo located in the city.
    • The Everhart Museum displays many valuable pieces of "natural history, science and art" in global history, including sculptures from ancient civilizations. In addition, the museum once housed paintings by Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollack, though they were later stolen on November 18, 2005. News of the theft was carried on international headlines.
