Located in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. The Ohiopyle State Park covers about 20,000 acres of rugged P.A.outdoor beauty and is the gateway to the Laurel Highlands Mountains. Most visitors travel to Ohiopyle for the Youghigheny River that passes through the park. The “Yough” has some of the best whitewater rafting on the East coast. The Youghigheny River's twenty-foot fall marks the center point for most visitors to the park, with the Laurel Highlands visitor center nearby. Ohiopyle is the perfect Pennsylvania vacation spot for Whitewater Enthusiasts. The Lower Yough, which starts after the Ohiopyle Falls, is one of the coolest sections of whitewater in the eastern United States. With many challenging class III and IV rapids the seven mile stretch of river, to the Bruner Run Take-Out, is a great Pennsylvania family activity. The Youghigheny River Trail is fun for bikers and a perfect place for hikers to watch the rafters take on the rapids.

 

If mountain biking is your sport, Ohiopyle has 27-miles of bike and hike trails along the river and has been voted one of the most beautiful area in the world by travel and leisure magazine. The Elevations range from 980 feet, at the lower Yough river, to almost 3000 feet at the top of Laurel Ridge. This difference in elevation makes for a variety of climate and wildlife. Gateway to the Laurel Mountains, Ohiopyle State Park prides itself on preserving the Youghigheny River Gorge. The "Yough" attracts outdoor people from all over the East, including many whitewater rafters, mountain bikers and rock climbers.
