Daniel Boone

Born November 2nd, 1734, Daniel Boone grew up in Berks County or Birdsboro, Pennsylvania.  From what was once a log cabin is now a stone farmhouse, besides that not much has changed.  The cellar and original spring still grace the property despite the changes.  This homestead off route 422 is run by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.  They offer tours, videos, souvenirs that the whole family can enjoy.

The Boone’s were Quakers and lived on this piece of land for a long time but was always looking to expand.  At the age of thirteen Daniel Boone acquires his first gun and can’t stop wandering through the woods.  After his father the Squire is expelled from his group they only stayed two more years before moving on to North Carolina.

By the age of twenty-one Daniel Boone married Rebecca Bryan on August 14th.  Soon after their marriage they are forced out of North Carolina by raiding Indians and move to Virginia.  It was from then on that Daniel would leave his legacy behind him, of a husband, father, and a man in touch with nature.  His travels in General Braddock’s army allowed for him to see much of the land and fight for the country that he loves.

Between his family moving around so much due to war and Indian attacks, Daniel Boone traveled all over the Country.  He has captured by different nations of American Indians and has learned from them.  That is why he was such a man of the land.  He fought to keep his family and the country that he had grown to love safe from harm.

During his Pennsylvania years not much was known about what happened.  Though many structures from the original farm still stand much of his early years are not known.  From this farm and the land of his youth much can be learned about this man and by visiting more can still be discovered.
